MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is continuing to support and coordinate the response to a winter storm that began on March 14. The SEOC was elevated to Level 3 on March 15 and will revert to Level 4 at 7 p.m. March 16 due to the diminishing effects of the storm. There will still be active monitoring and support for resource requests should they occur.
The SEOC has been in communication with county and tribal emergency managers and has received reports of poor to impassable driving conditions, power outages, and motorists being assisted by Wisconsin State Patrol.
The SEOC is actively coordinating resources and support with several state and nongovernmental partners actively coordinating to provide support. Those agencies include:
- Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs
- Wisconsin Department of Transportation
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
- Wisconsin Department of Health Services
- American Red Cross
Since the last update on March 15, the SEOC has not received any additional resource requests for emergency assistance, which indicates the response to this winter storm can currently be handled at the local level and does not exceed their resources.
For updated travel information, follow official WisDOT sources like 511wi.gov, WisDOT and Wisconsin State Patrol social media platforms, and official WisDOT travel advisories and news releases.
Once this storm clears, stay safe going outside. Check your surroundings before starting cleanup or traveling. Avoid ice, downed power lines, large tree branches, and other debris. Do not overexert yourself. Know your limits and listen to your body, take breaks, and ask for help when needed.
Anyone impacted by this winter storm should continue to monitor weather alerts, follow the instructions of local officials, and maintain their personal emergency and safety plans.
