MADISON, Wis. — Every day, the state of Wisconsin receives more than two million security events, such as malicious emails, scans for vulnerabilities, attempts to crack passwords, and website attacks. That’s why fighting cyber threats and attacks is important not only for business but also government agencies as well.

The 7th annual Wisconsin Governor’s Summit on Cybersecurity brings together leaders in government, industry, business and academic together to discuss strategies and tackle current cyber threats. This year’s summit will be held Monday, Sept. 23 at the Gordon Commons, located on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus.

“We are excited to have some of the top experts from across the nation participate at the Wisconsin Governor’s Summit on Cybersecurity,” said Maj. Gen. Don Dunbar, Wisconsin’s adjutant general and Wisconsin’s Homeland Security advisor. “It’s a great opportunity to learn about best practices and to be aware of new threats and protective measures.”

Some of the featured speakers include:

  • Jeanette Manfra, the assistant director for Cybersecurity for the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. She will discuss steps that are being taken to protect and strengthen the nation’s critical infrastructure against cyber threats.
  • Several utilities will participate in a panel discussion on the P3 Charter which encourages public agencies and private utilities to develop partnerships to help prepare, mitigate and response to catastrophic electrical outages.
  • Members of the state of Wisconsin Cyber Response Teams will discuss how they are deployed to help local governments during cyber incidents.

“The state of Wisconsin has made cybersecurity an important part of how we do business,” said Chief Information Officer of the state of Wisconsin, David Cagigal. “The summit provides an excellent opportunity where we can share information and develop those key relationships with the private sector.”
