As the role of emergency management in this pandemic moves from response to recovery, Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) is transferring functions to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) for long-term administration, including the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Saxon Harbor in Iron County, Wisconsin, will open for the summer season with a ceremony Friday, June 11. It’s a grand reopening and dedication that marks the end of a long road to recovery involving several agencies, including Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM). A major storm in July 2016 destroyed the marina along with 85 boats in the harbor, killing a beloved member of the community.
CHICAGO – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) announced today that the village of La Valle, Wisc. was awarded $1,021,441 in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds for the acquisition and demolition of five flood-prone properties. To reduce the community’s flood vulnerability, these structures will be removed from the floodplain of the Baraboo River, and the area transitioned into open green space.

MADISON, Wis. – More than $6.4 million in Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) funds provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will allow three Wisconsin communities to soon have new safe room facilities to help protect residents. The PDM program makes grants available to state and local governments for the implementation of long-term hazard mitigation measures.
MADISON, Wis. – Federal funding will help Jefferson County remove homes from a dozen flood-prone properties, reducing the potential financial impact of future disasters on the community. More than $1.5 million in Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) funds, announced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM), will be used to acquire and demolish 12 properties in Jefferson County.

Everyone in the state is invited to participate by going to their designated tornado shelter at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. today, or during a time when they can safely practice.
