This week marks the 10th anniversary of the start of the devastating 2008 floods in southern Wisconsin. Three people were killed and thousands of homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed as flood waters impacted 31 counties for almost a month. It was the worst disaster since the Great Floods of 1993 that hit the Midwest.
While many people look forward to warmer temperatures during the summer months, it’s also important to remember that hot conditions can turn dangerous quickly. That’s why Gov. Scott Walker has declared June 6 as Heat Awareness Day in Wisconsin.
Memorial Day weekend is considered the unofficial start of summer. ReadyWisconsin wants you to be safe while still enjoying this busy holiday weekend. Whether you are traveling or staying home, consider these safety tips for you and your family:

We appreciate the tireless efforts of the DNR, the Wisconsin National Guard, and Wisconsin Emergency Management in working together to protect Wisconsin families.” The National Weather Service issued Red Flag Warnings for portions of the State of Wisconsin on both Sunday, April 29, 2018 and Monday, April 30, 2018.
